Background:
- JPMorganChase Bank, N.A. (“JPMCB”) has established a Global Service Centre in Mumbai in 2002, Bangalore in 2005 and in Hyderabad in 2010 (the “IGSC”) to provide support functions, processes and other related services to various Lines of Business and Corporate Groups globally. These services include Corporate & Investment Bank Operations, Private Bank Operations, Finance, Human Resources Service Delivery, Technology, Equity Research, Investment Bank Support and Credit Analysis. As a result of the successful growth of the GSC with over 18,500 employees, India is now the largest JPMCB location outside the US.
Job Description/Responsibilities:
- Senior Lawyer/Head of Legal for the IGSC providing local legal support to the senior managers in all legal aspects of the day-to-day operations including specific advice on Labor/Employment Law issues, Software Technology of Parks India Regulations, Department of Telecommunications’ Regulations, visas and work permits for expatriates and property/contract laws.
- Provide legal support (draft, negotiate & execute legal agreements) to various JPMCB units in India entering into technology and non-technology related contracts (e.g. outsourcing, offshore application development, hardware purchases and maintenance, software licensing, human resources, general procurement etc.).
- To draft and review inter-entity Service Level Agreements between the Receptor (the entity receiving the Services e.g. the IGSC) and the Donor (the entity offshoring the Services) in the form of Master Service Agreements/Service Level Agreements, etc. as the Services provided by the IGSC are the subject of inter-company contracts.
- To provide advice on local laws with respect to JPMCB’s Equity Research, Credit Analysis and other Finance related functions.
- To manage all litigation for JPMSIPL.
- Draft & maintain India precedent library in accordance with JPMCB corporate policy and applicable law.
- Keep abreast of changes to applicable local laws and JPMCB corporate policy.
- To coordinate with colleagues in various JPMCB locations, in particular the US and UK for relevant visas and work permits for local i.e. Indian employees on assignment/training in those countries.
- Mitigate and reduce exposure to JPMCB by ensuring legal processes, work practices and policies are appropriate in current operating environment.
- Manage/supervise the local legal team at the IGSC.
Reporting Line:
This position reports directly to the General Counsel for Offshoring & Outsourcing based in New York, USA.
Skills Required:
- 15 years + legal experience including experience from a financial institution’s captive offshoring centers/international business process outsourcing outfits in India and top-tier law firms (optimally, a combination of experience as in-house counsel in the offshoring industry and as a lawyer in a top-tier firm).
- Experience in laws/issues facing the offshoring/outsourcing industry including Labor Laws, Software Technology of Parks Regulations and the Department of Telecommunications Regulations.
- Possess a network of strong relationships with relevant regulators as well as others in the industry.
- Excellent drafting skills.
- Able to communicate well and work in a cross-functional team to achieve common goals.
- Able to identify and escalate issues timely and appropriately.
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
- Independent and self-motivated.
- Strong management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritize and respond to business needs and goals.
