Business Architect
As part of a newly forming Business Architecture team for OptumRx, you will be accountable for driving capability based planning activities to enable business-IT alignment. In this leadership by influence role, you will be expected to drive roadmap development and prioritization efforts to achieve optimal IT project portfolio governance. Specific responsibilities will include:
- Understanding business stakeholders, business strategy and business objectives
- Understanding current state of the business and the supporting technology
- Developing capability maps and heat maps to understand the business capabilities that need most investment or change
- Developing and evangelizing causes for action
- Understanding critical success factors (CSFs) for achieving business objectives
- Understanding KPIs for measuring progress against CSFs
- Developing future state capability blueprints of the business (aligned with business strategy and objectives)
- Understanding supporting applications, data, platforms and infrastructure and how they can be used to improve the business
- Developing and managing roadmaps for migrating to future state
- Engaging with stakeholders (at the executive level and below) to ensure alignment to business and IT roadmaps and solutions
- Assisting business and IT leaders in creating the right programs and projects (aligned with achieving desired target states)
- Creating financial models (e.g., CBAs, break-evens, revenue streams, NPV, etc.) to present to business and IT leaders
- Setting the scope and approach for programs and projects to align with business objectives and roadmaps
- Shaping solutions to ensure that they address core business opportunities and problems
- Supporting roadmap implementation and change governance
- Driving and governing projects to ensure alignment with strategies
- Ensuring that projects are paying for and building towards the desired future state
- Continuously evolving the systems strategy and roadmap to maintain alignment with business strategy and objectives as well as the technology landscape
Candidates will possess:
- 5 + years consulting experience at the intersection of Business and IT Strategy
- 5 + years in the business process analysis/engineering, planning and improvement domain
- Broad, enterprise-wide view of the business and appreciation for strategy, processes and capabilities, enabling technologies, and governance
- Proven ability to recognize structural issues within the organization, functional interdependencies and cross-silo redundancies (which may exist in role alignment, process gaps and overlaps, and/or business capability maturity gaps)
- Demonstrated ability to apply architectural principles, methods, and tools to business challenges
- Broad understanding of technology and how it's used to drive business growth and/or efficiencies
- Ability to assimilate and correlate disconnected documentation and drawings, and articulate their collective relevance to the organization and to high-priority business issues
- Ability to visualize and create high-level models (rigorous information-rich diagrams) that can be used in future analysis to extend and mature the business architecture
- Experience developing and using these high-level models to collect, aggregate or disaggregate complex and conflicting information about the business
- Extensive experience planning and deploying either business or IT initiatives (preference for both)
- Experience modeling business processes using a variety of tools and techniques (preference for Casewise)
- Exceptional communication skills and the demonstrable ability to communicate appropriately at all levels of the organization (this includes written and verbal communications as well as visualizations)
- Ability to act as liaison conveying information in suitably accurate models between the business unit and their counterparts within Information Technology (* Note: The scope of this information includes business requirements, data constraints, business rules, models of strategy and motivation, processes, accountabilities, and many other business and IT operational needs.)
- Strong situational analysis and decision making abilities
- Demonstrated success helping to drive organizational change
- Prior experience creating financial models (e.g., CBAs, break-evens, revenue streams, NPV, etc)
- Strong mentoring, influencing and negotiation skill
- Bachelor's degree and 5 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree and 2 years of relevant experience
Desired knowledge/experiences:
- Understanding of enterprise architecture approaches such as TOGAF or other similar approaches
- Demonstrated PBM domain experience
- BPM
- ITIL
- Six Sigma or LEAN
- Prior experience in related disciplines such as business analysis, solution or enterprise architecture and/or data modeling
