National Heritage Academies is seeking a part-time SOCIAL WORKER at Legacy Charter Academy located in Detroit, Michigan.
 
Hours per week: 16
 
National Heritage Academies (NHA) partners with community groups to build and operate public charter schools.  Founded in 1995, today NHA partners with 80 K-8 schools in 9 states serving over 50,000 students.  NHA is one of the largest charter school management organizations designed to eliminate achievement gaps and prepare our students for success in high school, college and beyond.

School Leadership:  You will be supported by a cohesive leadership team.  Our deans avail themselves to provide teachers assistance with lesson plans, classroom management, professional development and instruction, which is done on a weekly basis.
 
School Culture:  You may work independently in your classroom, but are a part of a grade level team that meets weekly to discuss lesson planning and ensure that the students are achieving their learning objectives.  The school provides a safe and secure environment for the students and staff alike, thus creating a real community feel that parents are a part of on a daily basis.
 
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include fulfilling special education IEP objectives, working with students who are socially at-risk, educating parents on intervention strategies, and connecting students and families with community mental health organizations.

Accountabilities
Social workers will be held accountable for establishing relationships with both students and parents and participating in all aspects of school planning. Also, we desire candidates who demonstrate moral focus and personal values to students in everyday settings. Successful candidates will be self-starters with effective classroom management skills, strong leadership capabilities, and a passion for education.
Qualified candidates must have a Master’s degree in Social Work, a valid Social Work license in the State of Michigan, a SSW-310 letter issued by the college/university, and knowledge of special education processes and procedures.
 
Candidates with an out-of-state license do not qualify for this position. 
 
NHA prefers candidates that have experience working with at-risk students in an urban environment.
