National Heritage Academies is seeking an Academic Specialist at Legacy Charter Academy located in Detroit, Michigan.

School Leadership:  You will be supported by a cohesive leadership team.  Our deans avail themselves to provide teachers assistance with lesson plans, classroom management, professional development and instruction, which is done on a weekly basis.
 
School Culture:  You may work independently in your classroom, but are a part of a grade level team that meets weekly to discuss lesson planning and ensure that the students are achieving their learning objectives.  The school provides a safe and secure environment for the students and staff alike, thus creating a real community feel that parents are a part of on a daily basis.
 
Responsibilities
The academic specialist will provide instructional support services to students who are identified as eligible for intervention services through the use of assessments and eligibility criteria set by the school.  Collaborating with classroom teachers and reading specialists will be necessary to create and execute the individual student intervention plan for success.  The teacher will serve as a conduit for communication to the at-risk students’ parents by providing regular, clear and understandable progress reports on intervention services being provided.
 
Successful academic specialists are self-starters with effective classroom management skills, strong leadership capabilities, and a passion for education.  Depending on licensure and experience, this person will work with K-8 students in areas of math or reading and language arts.
Qualified candidates must hold a valid teaching license issued by the State of Michigan for K-5 All, K-8 SCC with any 6-8 endorsement. 
 
Candidates with an out-of-state license do not qualify for this position. Candidates with secondary licenses do not qualify for this position.
 
NHA prefers candidates that have experience working with at-risk students in an urban environment.
