The Health Information Department at Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton, WI is looking for an experienced outpatient coder. This position will be primarily located on-site, but there is the potential to work from home on occassion. The ideal candidate will be within the region.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The coder is responsible to hospital, patient, and medical staff for providing accurate and timely coding of diagnostic data.

The coder will:
• Accurately codes diagnoses and procedures for in-patient stays according to recognized classifications.
• Analyzes DRG patient records to ensure correct sequencing of principle and secondary diagnoses/procedures according to all required guidelines.
• Abstracts data into hospital information management system.
• Ensures accuracy and integrity of medical record abstract data prior to billing interface.
• Collaborates with Clinical Documentation Staff to ensure complete clinical documentation.
• Interacts with attending physician to clarify diagnostic information as needed.
• Monitors records for JCAHO, Quality Improvement or legal issues.
• Acts as resource person to hospital departments regarding coding questions and issues
• Meets customer service expectations as outlined.
• Assumes other duties and assignments as assigned.

MON

High school diploma or equivalent

3 years of progressive coding experience in an acute care facility strongly preferred

CCS, CCS-P, RHIT or RHIA required within 1 year of hire.

CPC and/or CPC-H will be considered in lieu of above certifications with relevant work experience.
