Description:
The Counsel, Intellectual Property reports to Lead IP Counsel and provides legal advice relating to all Intellectual Property matters for ConocoPhillips.
Responsibilities may include:
- Evaluating invention submissions, drafting and prosecuting US patent applications, assisting outside counsel with foreign patent application prosecution, and managing outside counsel who draft and prosecute US and foreign patent applications
- Advising internal business clients regarding intellectual property matters, including freedom to operate clearance and opinion work
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating intellectual property related agreements and clauses, from simple secrecy and non-analysis agreements through the more complex licensing and transactional agreements
Basic/Required:
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- J.D. degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association
- 10+ years of direct experience in intellectual property law
- 10+ years of transactional legal experience
- Licensed to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, other engineering or other related technical field
- Superior negotiation, advocacy and presentation skills with mature judgment and discretion
- Ability to manage and prioritize work assignments which may be broad in scope and complexity and which involved collaborative work with employees in different departments or with varying levels of seniority
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision within broadly defined objectives
- Comprehensive analytical, conceptual, problem-solving, planning, evaluation and legal project management skills
- Responds resourcefully, flexibly and positively when faced with challenges and demands
- Transmits information so it is received and understood in the way it was intended
