Key Responsibilities
The REFS Property Tax, Real Estate, Right of Way and Claims (PTRRC) Agent may be responsible for:
- Preparation and analysis of property tax returns.
- All Property Tax compliance activities including but not limited to: assistance with preparation of property tax forecast and metrics for accrual purposes; processing payments in a timely manner; working with local Finance group on cost center reconciliation for tax payments.
- Negotiating complex property tax valuations with Provincial and Municipal agencies/assessors, preparing and presenting valuation protests/appeals to county assessment officials including appearing before administrative boards.
- Ability to review client/operations facilities to identify recoverable property taxes.
- Advising on planning and tax mitigation strategies.
- Researching the application of tax laws and advocating for best interests of ConocoPhillips.
- Acquiring/leasing/disposing of surface real estate, office space, warehouse facilities and rights of way, including document preparation, negotiations, title review and closing. Investigates, negotiates and settles claims related to property.
- Utilizing computer systems involved in job functions, such as Property Tax Management System (PTMS), Risk Master, Tobin and SAP.
Basic/Required Qualifications
- Legally authorized to work in Canada.
- Bachelor's degree
- 3+ years of property tax valuation and compliance experience with a strong background in the oil & gas industry.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills and the ability to analyze tax
- Computer proficient in Microsoft Office applications and ability to quickly learn tax compliance software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Real estate experience or the ability to quickly assimilate into this role.
- Must be a self-starter able to work with minimal supervision and work well in a team environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills required with the ability to establish/maintain relationships with internal and external business partners, suppliers, organizations, and agencies.
- Strong written/oral communication skills essential with the ability to exhibit flexibility and innovation, spontaneously think/respond quickly and be persistent.
- Lease/contract drafting experience is a plus.
- Computer proficient including applications for word processing, spreadsheets, data bases, SAP, Accumap, and Property Tax Management System (PTMS)
