I/S Specialist - Information Secuity - Intrusion Detection

This role will report to the Senior Manager – Information Security, and will function as a member of the Information Security team to help develop the Valero Information Security Program. The primary focus of this position is to deploy, operate and monitor technical security controls. The position’s incumbent will also work with the security team to define security policies, processes and guidelines.

Responsibilities

Deploy, operate and monitor technical security controls such as firewalls, IDS/IPS, anti-virus and security event and incident management systems (SEIM).
Collaborates on critical IT projects to ensure that security issues are addressed throughout the project life cycle.
Researches, evaluates, and recommends information-security-related hardware and software.
Monitor and analyze network traffic via multiple sources, SEIM, anti-malware, firewall, system logs, IDS/IPS, etc.
Provides second and third-level support and analysis during and after a security incident.
Assists Security Management and/or I/S Leadership in the resolution of reported security incidents.
Participates in security investigations and compliance reviews as requested by Security Management or IT Leadership.
Researches and assesses new threats and security alerts, and recommends remedial actions.
Independently follow procedures to contain, analyze, and eradicate malicious activity.

High school diploma or GED required.
A B.S. or B.A. degree in Management Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field, or equivalent certification such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC) are preferred.
Minimum 5 - 8 years of relevant information security and IT experience including a high degree of technical security technology expertise required.
This role demands strong analytical and problem solving skills, systematic thinking, and a good understanding of technologies deployed in the infrastructure environment.
Knowledge of a wide range of security technologies, such as network security appliances, anti-malware solutions, and desktop security tools is needed.
An excellent understanding of information security concepts, principles, and best practices is needed.
Analyst experience in a Security Operations Center (SOC) is preferred.
Excellent communication skills required to interact with internal and external contacts. The candidate should also have interpersonal and collaborative skills and the ability to communicate security and risk concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
A high level of personal integrity and the ability to professionally handle confidential matters with proper judgment is required
