Director – Data Services

CDW, a $10B technology solutions & services company is seeking a Director – Data Services. This role sits in the corporate IT organization supporting a user base of 7,000 across North America and Canada. Headquartered in Vernon Hills, IL, we are a Microsoft environment utilizing Cisco networking and telephony, EMC storage, and multiple package tools and applications (Remedy, PeopleSoft, etc.). The IT organization also is responsible for the development and operations of one of the world’s largest B2B websites.
The role of the Director of Data Services is to partner with business partners to understand their data needs and to create the strategy and vision for data delivery services for reporting, business intelligence, and big data and to execute on that strategy and vision. This role serves as a cross-functional liaison to the enterprise and must have a demonstrated understanding of how IT relates to other corporate functions and how data is used to run the business and how it can be used to transform the business.
Key areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:

Drive business strategy for data services across IT and the business.

Lead the business and technological direction of the group.

Lead the teams in planning and prioritization of projects.

Oversee a group of Managers and development teams responsible for delivery of data services within service level agreements and/or projected budgets and schedules.

Application architecture planning, including system partitioning and framework design.
Responsibilities

Oversees the entire data services function

Oversee planning and processes and is responsible for the data services budgets and expenses.

Fosters and maintains productive working relationships across the entire organization.

Leads a team of managers including performance management, development and coaching.

Build a talent pool that allows for bench strength and succession planning.

Participates and provides feedback in the strategic, tactical, and operational plans for the portfolio; ensures plans are executed and achieved with the company's strategic vision in mind.

Effectively manage and resolve business processes and policy issues that cross work streams, recommend modifications to established processes and policies.
Minimum Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS or related field.

10 years of experience in IT and/or business intelligence/data analytics.

7 years of progressive leadership experience.
Other Required Qualifications

Expertise in leading teams and managing implementation projects that utilize various reporting/data analytic tools.

Demonstrated ability to interface and build consensus with internal clients

Strong organizational and planning skills with creative problem solving skills.

History of negotiating with stakeholders and influencing the decision making process.

History of balancing competing priorities with the ability to adapt to the changing needs of the business while meeting deadlines and budgets.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with and present to all stakeholders including executive leadership and the Board of Directors.

Solid business and technical acumen, including the ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex business reports and documentation, periodicals, and professional journals.

Track record of negotiating priorities and contracts with the ability to influence business decisions.

Strong understanding of the B2B marketplace.

History of forecasting and managing to a budget.
