As a key member of the commodities leadership team, this position is focused on strategic sourcing and supplier relationship management (SRM)/supplier integration as key elements of this role. Contributes to the broad strategy that will drive the organization’s ability to leverage the commodities network to reduce the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), innovate, and integrate critical suppliers into our business model. The position is responsible for developing individual sourcing and category strategy for specific commodities within a matrix organization, while incorporating supply base design, supplier qualification, and supplier relationship management through integrated relationships with critical members of the supply base including Category Captains and Supplier Residents. Ongoing activities include budgeting, productivity, quality management, stakeholder communication, strategy development, risk management and continuity planning, innovation and continuous improvement opportunities with suppliers. Responsible for financial planning with direct accountability for productivity and cash flow contributions for overarching Procurement and ISC objectives, and respective Business Unit goals where applicable. Maintains strong linkages with stakeholders in RD&Q, Operations and Supply Chain to ensure alignment on objectives, and directs and prioritizes resources and activities appropriately.

This leader is responsible for establishing strategic category plans and processes that meet risk mitigation and competitive objectives, while adhering to policy and process guidelines for business and regulatory requirements. Primary responsibilities include driving supplier development plans that result in favorable commercial and market outcomes, delivering a competitive advantage for Kraft through robust sourcing, category planning and supply base design, and reducing volatility and uncertainty through strategic risk mitigation, and will work closely with Risk Management team members to ensure that strategies are aligned with regulations and policies. This leader is also responsible for developing, driving, integrating and leveraging commodity category expertise and general business expertise across the respective Business Units and the Kraft enterprise. This role directly manages relationships for all suppliers in the respective spend categories, and is responsible for ongoing joint business planning, establishment and tracking of robust performance KPI’s, and developing innovation and productivity initiatives. Also responsible for embedding the policies and procedures of the Procurement governance model across their respective business or team, and complying with all overarching Kraft and Business Unit policies.


 

Commodity Specific Sourcing Strategy and Category Planning: Owns the sourcing and contracting strategy for specific commodity areas including market and industry analysis, category and supplier segmentation, sourcing activities, analysis, negotiations, contracting and implementation, while also focusing on delivery of Kraft Supplier Diversity targets. Key strategic sourcing components may also include joint process improvements, spec. optimization, volume concentration, price/cost optimization, and global sourcing, Contributes to the development and execution the department strategy via five major areas of emphasis: financial goal delivery, enabling of innovation goals, transforming work processes, strengthening the talent base, and maximizing the impact of Kraft value initiatives. Supports and executes the commodities and general business strategies of the Business Units (BUs) to enable optimal solutions for the respective category areas. Participates in the supply base design and optimization process to ensure successful contract execution. Leverages supplier capabilities and maximizes opportunities to meet quality, cost and service requirements. Facilitates the development of ongoing category planning for key categories to include market analysis, competitive analysis, internal company review of risks and opportunities, and ongoing supply base design, capacity and contingency planning. Provides deep category insight and expertise through understanding of costs, cost drivers, market, industry and supplier variables.

 

Supplier Integration/Supplier Relationship Management (SRM): Manages supplier relationships to encourage supplier innovation and maximize value contributions to Kraft through effective sourcing and contracting processes. Responsible for leading discussions with critical suppliers around long-term objectives and strategies, ongoing market trends, innovation and technology advances, and potential investment decisions. Ensures that suppliers fully understand the overall Kraft value stream and the end customer, and that Kraft commitments to suppliers are being fulfilled. Facilitates ongoing solicitation of feedback around supplier performance to include communications, accuracy of specifications, project leadership, quality and delivery, and access to new opportunities. Coordinates necessary IT/IS linkages to ensure that supplier relationships can be fully leveraged. Assists in development of high level work stream planning through E2E assessments with the integrated supply base. Meets with preferred suppliers on a regular basis to ensure contractual obligations are being met or exceeded through management of established KPI’s. Ensures that stakeholder resource commitments remain a part of the process and evaluates strategic suppliers on a regular basis. Ensures that key activities associated with Supplier Integration are implemented successfully including overall work plan development, creation of short and long term business plans, and project management of key productivity and innovation priorities with a TCO perspective. May act as the key relationship manager for linkages with integrated Category Captains for high spend and complex commodity categories, and implements “Supplier Residency” strategy where appropriate in conjunction with overall Kraft/Supplier business plans. Ensures compliance to all Food Defense, Food Safety and Quality policies.

 

Market Analysis. Provides fundamental market analysis for key commodities and contributes to COMCU preparation and presentation through the leverage of market tools and benchmarks. Maintains awareness of all critical industry, economic and supplier information that may impact plans and forecasts, and provides frequent updates to key stakeholders on all projected impacts of future market activity for key areas of ownership.

 

Project Management: Supports the development of new business processes in the commodities team, building on the successful foundation of procurement resources, strategy and processes. Participates in ongoing projects with RD & Q and Marketing to proactively bring innovation, NPD and productivity initiatives to the organization. Provides alignment across the Business Units and ensures that all sourcing and category strategies are linked appropriately with the businesses. May also facilitate and manage targeted productivity, innovation and cash flow related projects from a Total Cost of Ownership perspective that have a key impact on respective commodities categories and critical supplier linkages.

 

 

Financial Planning and Reporting. Actively participates in productivity activities with Operations, R & D and Marketing to leverage opportunities. Leads ongoing market/price forecasting and the translation of market data into strategic plans and ongoing variance monitoring. Generates frequent reporting, and works closely with the Finance organization to ensure that standards are appropriately set. Leverages systems and available information to generate prescriptive recommendations. Leads monthly commodity meetings for respective Business Units. May also facilitate the development of price/cost models where appropriate with integrated suppliers. Has ownership and accountability for individual productivity, cash flow and innovation targets.
