Mental Health Services at Counties Manukau DHB are well known for providing innovative services to a diverse population – including New Zealand’s largest concentration of Maaori and Pacific Island peoples.

Our Mental Health service is viewed as highly innovative, leading the NZ national KPI’s set by the Ministry of Health. With a focus on safe and effective clinical systems across a full spectrum of specialities, our service continues to grow in line with the demands of our fast developing community.

We are looking for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our multidisciplinary team, working within our Adult Acute Mental Health Service, initially based at Taiho Mai inpatient unit.

Tiaho Mai is a 52 bed Inpatient unit, for adults suffering from acute mental health problems. The service has three wards, one 12 bed intensive care ward, one open acute ward, and one integrated ward including 3 intensive care beds.

A multi disciplinary approach towards care is in place, incorporating Psychiatrists, Medical Officers, GP’s, training Registrars, training House Officers, nursing, occupational therapy, psychology and social work, providing a comprehensive assessment and treatment plan for clients entering the service.

The service works in an Integrated Model of Care, with the community mental health services providing their aligned support. This is an exciting time to join our services and be part of a team that prides itself on the delivery of recovery focused services.

Vocational registration with the Medical Council of NZ and current APC is essential at commencement of employment.
