Business Systems Architect

The Business Systems Architect (BSA) provides comprehensive support for the definition of complex, end-to-end business

systems solutions. The BSA interprets business requirements to insure that the business problem is clearly understood and focuses the organization on what can be done to best solve the problem.  Often the BSA will need to determine the real problem which may be different than the stated problem or requirement. The BSA may also have to work with the business during product Ideation and scoping

activities before business requirements are final. The Business Systems Architect (BSA) is positioned within Retirement

Information Technology Services (RITS) and is broadly responsible for ensuring that technical solutions to business

problems are both well aligned to the specific business needs identified and consistent with the business strategy, IT

strategy, and enterprise architecture direction. Within the Solution Delivery Life Cycle, the BSA provides linkage and

continuity between Enterprise Architecture, Business Analysts, Functional Analysts, and Solution Designers in the

specification of solution recommendations. The BSA will report to the Director of Business Systems Architecture.

In this capacity the BSA will:

- Conceptualize solutions in product ideation and conduct proofs of concept to ensure solution viability.

- Define conceptual architectures for business capabilities at a high level, to ensure that the future implementations meet

business goals and are consistent with the organization’s target state architecture

- Use their cross functional expertise to understand and align multiple end to end business processes, business rules and

IT platforms to create technical solutions that increase organizational effectiveness and contribute to the realization of

strategic goals.

- Drive alignment and integration of solutions across Prudential Retirement while supporting business efforts. In

this capacity the BSA works with both the Business Relationship Manager (BRM) as well as other business and IT

stakeholders.

- Define common and reusable capabilities that may be shared across the enterprise and enable maintenance, extension,

and re-use of a SOA framework by designing enterprise level solutions.

Job Responsibilities:

- Responsible for the definition of integrated systems solutions with the focus on the end to end business processes,

and the customer experience frequently involving multiple platforms, software, technologies and tools.

- Provides technical consultation to the business units in the sales and product design processes, in the creation of

business proposals for technical enhancements, and in the implementation of new products, services and business

capabilities.

- Develops the conceptual architecture and participates in architecture strategy sessions in order to ensure design

recommendations remain relevant to leadership’s strategic vision.

- Conducts and/or participates in business process analysis in order to understand business complexities and constraints

and recommends technical improvements.

- Partners with senior leaders to bridge the gap between strategy and execution while understanding the relationship

between complex business functions.

- Identifies synergistic opportunities and capability dependencies across initiatives or business lines.

- Provides insight to the Technology Leadership team on impacts to RITS of upcoming project solutions being considered.

 

- ability to visualize and create high-level models (rigorous information-rich diagrams) that can be used in future analysis to

extend and mature the business systems architecture.

- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to able to collaborate and communicate with front-line users, business analysts,

senior management and other architects.

- BS or BA degree required.

- 10+ years of Retirement Industry, and/or Financial Services experience a plus.

- 10+ years of experience in Information technology required.

- Experience and facility with the primary Microsoft suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

- Familiarity with business systems architecture frameworks (e.g., Component Business Models, Process Models, Use

Case Models, Business Capability Models, Roadmaps, Six Sigma).

- Superior relationship management skills with ability to partner and build professional relationships in a cross-functional

environment.

- Ability to get stakeholder buy-in through sound reasoning.

- Willingness to incorporate diverse perspectives.

- Strong analytical skills and the ability to manage projects, gather data, organize ideas and implement solutions.

- Ability to marry sound theoretical concepts with practical decision making to ensure solutions are pragmatic and robust,

but not over designed.

- Detail oriented with strong organizational skills.

- Some travel is required.
