POSITION PURPOSE
 

                   Advanced Practice Nurse
Provides primary or specialty health care services within defined scope of practice in collaboration with a licensed physician and in accordance with MCW/FMLH/CHW policies and procedures.

Position is in support of the Pediatric Rehabilitation program, with an emphasis on Spina Bifida and Down syndrome patients.  Position will participate in the twice monthly Spina Bifida Clinic and follow Spina Bifida patients when admitted to an inpatient unit.  Position will also participate in the Down Syndrome clinic and work with patients in inpatient units.  Position will be trained in the management of baclofen pump management, and assist with all patients in the pediatric rehabilitation program
Physician Assistant
Provides primary or specialty medical care within defined scope of practice under the supervision of a licensed physician and in accordance with MCW/FMLH/CHW policies and procedures.

 
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

1.      Performs comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive and psychosocial status.
2.      Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests.
3.      Develops pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.
4.      Monitors effectiveness of plan of care.
5.      Educates patients on disease and treatment plans.
6.      Performs procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed.
7.      Documents within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.
8.      Collaborates and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.
9.      Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.
 
Department Specific Responsibilities

1.         Working independently and with the physician, perform evaluations and establish plan of care for pediatric rehabilitation patients, including Spina Bifida and Down Syndrome patients
2.         Working independently and with the pediatric rehabilitation team, evaluate and treat patients with intrathecal baclofen pumps, including maintaining the pump through refilling and reprograming, trouble shooting and coordinating and patient education.  This will include some evening and weekend call
3.         Participate in the inpatient consultative service to advise services and develop care plans to improve the comfort and independence of patients.
4.         Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental meetings relevant to specific areas of practice

 
 

MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education Requirements

Advanced Practice Nurse
Master’s Degree (appropriate education and experience may be substituted on equivalent basis)
Physician Assistant
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies

·         Wisconsin Advance Practice Nurse Prescriber License
·         National certification as Advance Practice Nurse – either as a pediatric nurse practitioner or a family nurse practitioner.

Physician Assistant
·         Wisconsin PA license
·         Certification by NCCPA
