Job Title:           Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant

Location:           Hand Center- Tosa Center
Workweek:       Generally 8am-5pm M-Friday but will vary based on business
                             needs.

POSITION PURPOSE
 

Advanced Practice Nurse
Provides  specialty health care services within defined scope of practice in collaboration with a licensed physician and in accordance with MCW/FMLH/CHW policies and procedures.
Department Position Purpose
 
Works with multiple plastic surgery faculty.
 
Functions as a member of a multidisciplinary team in the delivery of care to patients receiving plastic surgery interventions.
 
Physician Assistant
Provides  specialty medical care within defined scope of practice under the supervision of a licensed physician and in accordance with MCW/FMLH/CHW policies and procedures.

 
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive and psychosocial status.
Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests.
Develops pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.
Monitors effectiveness of plan of care.
Educates patients on disease and treatment plans.
Performs procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed.
Documents within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.
Collaborates and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.
Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.
 
Department Specific Responsibilities
 
Provides surgical care in collaboration with plastic surgery faculty and staff to patients requiring plastic surgery interventions across the inpatient, outpatient and in the OR settings.
 
Inpatient responsibilities: including by not limited to general floor and intensive care unit; rounding, ordering and interpretation of testing and imaging, discharge summaries and patient/family education.
 
Clinic responsibilities: including but not limited to assessment and development of plan of care for post-operative care, pain and symptom management and patient/family education.
 
Conducts pre-operative assessment and clearance for surgery including treatment and general admission orders.
 
Surgery coverage- first assistant   as assigned by faculty.
 
Writes accurate and timely progress notes, procedure notes, and admission and transfer orders.
 
Communicates with other consult services, teams and disciplines to promote continuity of care.
 
Evaluates quality outcomes through participation in the development of quality indicators.
 
Attend departmental, divisional and programmatic meetings.
 

 
MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
 
Education Requirements

Advanced Practice Nurse
Master's Degree or higher in Nursing (appropriate education and experience may be substituted on equivalent basis)
Physician Assistant
Bachelor's Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies
Department Requirement:  Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies

 
Experience                                                                

  • Prefer 2 years of experience
  • Will consider new graduate with relevant experience. 

 
 
Certifications/Licenses

Advanced Practice Nurse
  • Wisconsin RN license
  • Wisconsin Advance Practice Nurse Prescriber License
  • Certification as Advance Practice Nurse
  • Certification as Acute Care Nurse Practitioner preferred. Will consider certification as:
  • Adult Nurse Practitioner
  • Family Nurse Practitioner
  • DEA
  • ACLS
Physician Assistant
  • Wisconsin PA license
  • Certification by NCCPA
