This position is covered under the City's collective bargaining agreement with the INTERNATIONAL UNION OF OPERATING ENGINEERS UNION, LOCAL 399 (BARGAINING UNIT 12).  Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid on this position.

Hours: 40 per Week

 

Shift/Days Off: Varies

 

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

 

Note: Hours and days will vary according to operational needs on a 24/7 basis.

 

 

 

 

 

THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE.

 

Two years of work experience in the operation and maintenance of high pressure boilers, pumping units, and related mechanical equipment.

 

A valid Illinois Driver's License is required.

 

A valid Stationary Engineer's license as issued by the City of Chicago is required.

 

Certification as a Universal technician as required by 40CFR part 82 subpart F of the EPA. 

   

Must pass Basic Airfield Driving Test within 6 months of hire

 

 

 

 

 

NOTE:  You must provide your transcripts or diploma, professional license, or training certificates at time of processing, if applicable.  You must also provide your valid U.S. Driver's License at time of processing.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

 

 

 

This position requires applicants to:  1)  successfully pass a written test / skills assessment with a proposed minimum score to be determined based on standard statistical analysis of test results, and  2)  complete an interview. 

 

 

 

Test results will be sent out by the Department of Human Resources after test results have been analyzed and compiled.  The interviewed candidate(s) receiving a passing score on the test and possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position will be selected.
