Be a part of the legacy: MRL Postdoctoral Research Fellow Program.
The Merck Research Laboratories (MRL) Postdoctoral Research Fellow Program aims to be a best-in-industry program for industrial postdoctoral researchers, designed to provide you with an academic focus in a commercial environment. With the resources, reach, and expertise of a large pharmaceutical company, postdoctoral researchers will be positioned to excel in an institution committed to breakthrough innovation in research and discovery.
Position Overview:
Glucagon has been known for many years to have positive effects on cholesterol lowering. In addition, recent disclosures of clinical studies with compounds that antagonize the glucagon receptor (GRAs) have suggested that, despite very promising effects on glucose, blocking the metabolic actions of glucagon may exacerbate dyslipidemia in these patients. It is therefore a conundrum why endogenous glucagon levels are frequently elevated in diabetics, yet the potential cholesterol regulating aspects of this mechanism are not apparent. As a postdoctoral fellow in the Cardiometabolic Disease department you will work with a highly collaborative team of scientists from Cardiometabolic Disease basic research and in vitro and in vivo pharmacology to conceive, design, plan and implement experiments designed to establish the role of hyperglucagonemia in dyslipidemia and Type 2 Diabetes.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Leading the development and implementation of assays and protocols.
- Designing and leading rodent in vivo studies.
Education Minimum Requirement:
-
PhD in Diabetes, Cardiovascular disease or a related area
