Position Overview:
This postdoctoral research will focus on development of translational In Vitro models for severe or inadequately controlled asthma disease, and will provide an exciting opportunity to apply cutting edge technologies to novel drug discovery. The position will also give an opportunity to work closely with a highly collaborative and skilled team of scientists with a wide range of drug discovery expertise from various functional groups.
Asthma is a heterogeneous disorder of chronic airway inflammation characterized by a variety of clinical phenotypes. One of which is exacerbation, a hallmark of severe asthma disease leading to frequent hospitalization, and represent a major burden for the patient and society. Viral respiratory tract infections have been recognized as one of the major triggers for asthma exacerbations. As a Postdoctoral Fellow in Pharmacology, you will use novel translational systems such as a human in vitro 3D organotypic model to interrogate key pathways and mechanisms involved in viral induced exacerbation of asthma. In addition this work will enable design of multiplexed phenotypic screens to identify novel therapeutics for severe asthma.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Designing and conducting experiments using various standard and innovative techniques.
- Keeping appropriate experimental records and documentation, analyzing data, troubleshooting problems and interpreting experimental results.
- Collaborating with scientists from other functional groups involved in the project as well as academic partners.
- Collating, presenting and publishing experimental results.
Education Minimum Requirement:

PhD with training in Immunology, Cell Biology or Pharmacology
Required Experience and Skills
-
PhD, or met all the requirements for a PhD by June 2015, with 3 years or less postdoctoral experience

Experience in various cell biology, immunology or pharmacology techniques
-
One or more peer-reviewed publications in relevant research area
-
Ability to apply innovative problem solving ways to scientific questions

Excellent communication skill and ability to collaborate in multifunctional environment.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
-
Knowledge and research experience in respiratory disease or immune system biology
-
Experience of working in a collaborative multidisciplinary team is highly desired
-
A strong record of publications in peer-reviewed journals would be favorable
-
Knowledge and research experience in TLR signaling and experience in imaging techniques would be advantageous
