Job Summary and Mission
This position contributes to Starbucks success by managing the activities and relationships with third party contract manufacturers and strategic suppliers for food and bakery products in order to achieve quality, cost and service objectives that are aligned with corporate strategies and support Global platforms. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.

 

Summary of Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

 

Leadership
- Setting goals for the work group, developing organizational capability, and modeling how we work together:
- Accountable for relationship and performance management of Contract Manufacturers which support multi-channel Global platforms
- Ensure contract manufacturers align with Starbucks guiding principles and
- Lead cross-functional teams (Contract Manufacturers, R&D and Commercialization) to analyze manufacturability of new products and recommend changes to facilitate efficient manufacturing and lower costs.
- Work effectively with Directors and Senior Level Partners both within the function, across functions/regions, and with the Contract Manufacturers.
- Provide partners with coaching, feedback, and developmentalopportunities and building effective teams:
- Challenge and inspire team members to achieve business results
- Conduct and ensure the completion of performance reviews
- Ensure partners adhere to legal and operational requirements
- Oversee training and development of partners directly and indirectly managed and make effective staffing decisions
- Provide coaching, direction and leadership support to team members in order to achieve partners, business and customer results

 

Planning and Execution
- Developing strategic and operational plans for the work group, managing execution, and measuring results:
- Develop long-term contract manufacturing plans consistent with the Company's strategic plans and objectives.
- Ensure contract manufacturers operate in accordance with established standards for quality, food safety, efficiency, inventory control, material handling and reporting.
- Monitor performance and Identify excess capacity in order to provide recommendations resulting from unexpected sales growth or other risks that could adversely impact supply. Include statement about analysis of total network and capacity opportunities.
- Ensure that manufacturing standard costs are set and aligned to contractual commitments.
- Make recommendations to influence manufacturing strategies or transitions of existing products.
- Seek to optimize production in an effort to drive out costs and improve quality.

 

Business Requirements
- Providing functional expertise and executing functional responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain Supplier Scorecards and KPI's to facilitate continuous improvement in the areas of Production, Fulfillment, Quality, Cost of Goods, Inventory Management, Waste, and other metrics.
- Ensure that contract manufacturing agreements are in place, and suppliers are in compliance with terms and conditions.
- Investigate, develop and implement Corrective Action plans to address complaints or issues relating to products or services provided by Contract Manufacturing partners.
- Team with Procurement, QA, R&D, etc. to seek out and evaluate new manufacturing capabilities consistent with early stage product development.
- Lead Key Business Reviews to ensure alignment with Contract Manufacturer related to performance, continuous improvement goals, and platform strategy.

Summary of Experience
- Manufacturing leadership experience, preferably in a food or bakery environment (5 years)
- Experience establishing and deploying safety and quality standards as they apply to operations (5 years)
- Supply chain operations experience in multiple functional areas such as Planning, Procurement, Capital Engineering and Manufacturing. Experience in the Food or CPG industry preferred. (5 years)
- Manufacturing P&L responsibility (2 years)
- Experience commercializing multi-market/region, multi-channel product introductions (3 years)

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to apply knowledge of multidisciplinary business principles and practices to achieve successful outcomes in cross-functional projects and activities
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines.
- Experience developing, implementing, and sustaining processes.
- Capable of holding Contract Manufacturers accountable for meeting production supply requirements while adhering to cost expectations.
- Detail oriented with strong analytical and reconciliation abilities.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing cost drivers, ability to analyze and infer data, and capable of interpreting contract language.
- Excellent relationship management skills with both external and internal constituents.
- Operates independently and leads activities with little directions.
- Experience interpreting and implementing technical changes (ie process, equipment, etc.) in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to translate Starbucks requirements into Contract Manufacturer's terms and systems
- Strong ability to influence internal and external partners to elevate performance against goals
- Demonstrated ability to identify issues and develop comprehensive action plans for resolution
