AFS Richland Engineering:
 
The AFS Richland Engineering organization is responsible for the design, analysis, fabrication, testing, and deployment of systems and technologies to recover, process, handle and store radioactive waste at the Hanford Site and other DOE facilities.  Additionally, the organization is responsible for providing technical support to the Hanford Site primary contractors.
 
Job Description:
 
AREVA Federal Services LLC, a subsidiary of AREVA, is seeking a Principal - Advisory Mechanical Engineer for our Richland, WA location.
 
Responsibilities and duties include: 
  • Under broad supervision, performs complex engineering assignments requiring originality, ingenuity and the development of new methods or resolution of conflicting objectives.
  • Provides advanced technical support to and works with multiple disciplinary teams to achieve project objectives.
  • Reviews progress and updates management, as needed.
  • Discipline lead for nuclear system design for unique one-of-a-kind systems, including all areas of the product lifecycle from specification, design, calculations, documentation, procurement, manufacturing, assembly, testing, delivery, training and commissioning support.
  • Work in a team-based environment to assist other engineers with the design of systems for nuclear applications, as well as assisting clients in defining system requirements.
  • Prepare documentation such as design and functional requirements, specifications, drawings, calculations, test procedures, and other supporting documentation.
  • Evaluate design alternatives and resolve complex field problems.
  • Performs a variety of complex engineering assignments typically in areas of design, development, analysis, evaluation, testing, preparation of specifications, execution of field tasks and resolution of field problems.
  • Receives minimal assistance and instruction on most assignments and solutions.
  • Ensures compliance with government, organization and customer engineering standards.
  • Independently evaluates, selects and applies a variety of technical techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgment in making complex adaptations and modifications.
  • Develops new or adapted products, methods, systems or models to provide added value solutions to customers.
  • Researches and assesses best practices, proposing methods and improvements.
  • Works on special projects and perform other related duties and tasks, as required.
  • Provide support to Project Manager and Project Engineer on as needed basis.
All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this opportunity.  Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher level position.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) Mechanical Engineering with a minimum  of 15 years of engineering experience in the nuclear industry, preferably Department of Energy projects at the Hanford site.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills necessary.
  • Ability to complete assignments on time and willing to ask for help when needed.
  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills
  • Works well in team and individual based development environments.
  • Good communication skills including the ability to comprehend and convey detailed technical data.
  • Experience designing mechanical handling systems, evaporative systems, transportation and packaging systems, and complex processing systems.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with national and DOE codes, standards, techniques, and criteria.
  • Experience performing operability reivews.
  • Experience performing structural analyses of piping systems and pipe supports.
  • Ability to lead distributed mechanical engineering design team.

  • Advanced knowledge of related engineering standards, techniques, and criteria.
  • Hanford Site experience.
  • Experience using analytical tools like MathCAD, ANSYS, RISA 3D, FATHOM, FLUENT desirable.
  • Experience using AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships.
  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills.

TRAVEL

 
Sporadic (5%) domestic travel. 2-3 weeks per year.
