The Merck Research Laboratories (MRL) Postdoctoral Research Fellow Program aims to be a best-in-industry program for industrial postdoctoral researchers, designed to provide you with an academic focus in a commercial environment. With the resources, reach, and expertise of a large pharmaceutical company, postdoctoral researchers will be positioned to excel in an institution committed to breakthrough innovation in research and discovery.
Position Overview:
As a postdoctoral research fellow in Merck’s Process Chemistry Catalysis and Automation group you will work with a highly collaborative team of scientists from throughout Merck chemistry to develop new, novel high-quality, high-tech synthetic organic chemistry methods that can be applied in to generate diverse arrays of drug-like molecules. The primary focus of this program will be to extend the capabilities of Merck’s growing nano-scale chemistry technology, using new robotics tools and chemistry informatics. In addition there is potential for collaboration with leading professors at top universities on this project.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Leading the development and implementation of new or improved synthetic methods for complex molecule synthesis
- Executing high-throughput experimentation chemistry techniques to improve chemistry performance or identify new optimal chemistry methods
- Executing high-throughput experimentation analytical methods and analyzing data sets to determine reactivity trends
- Utilizing advanced chemistry lab automation in pursuit of these goals
Education Minimum Requirement:

PhD in Synthetic Organic Chemistry
Required Experience and Skills:
-
PhD, or met all the requirements for a PhD by June 2015, with 3 years or less postdoctoral experience
-
Experience in synthetic organic chemistry
-
Demonstrated comfort with new software platforms
-
Demonstrated comfort with new technologies
Preferred Experience and Skills:
-
Ability to design experiments, interpret and track results, and utilize this information to enable new reaction development

Strong history of publication in peer-reviewed journals
