The Merck Research Laboratories (MRL) Postdoctoral Research Fellow Program aims to be a best-in-industry program for industrial postdoctoral researchers, designed to provide you with an academic focus in a commercial environment. With the resources, reach, and expertise of a large pharmaceutical company, postdoctoral researchers will be positioned to excel in an institution committed to breakthrough innovation in research and discovery.
Position Overview:
As a postdoctoral fellow in Computational Chemistry, you will have the opportunity to build advanced computational tools for predicting protein ligand interactions in a structure-based drug design paradigm. You will be able to interact with colleagues of various disciplines at Merck laboratories and experience multiple aspects of drug discovery and development. The position is for one year and renewable for up to three years. The candidate will be located at the Merck Kenilworth site in NJ.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Establish state-of-the-art free energy simulation techniques (e.g., free energy perturbation (FEP), lambda-dynamics) to predict protein-ligand binding interactions.
- Conduct critical assessment of the approaches using diverse datasets from different protein targets.
- Develop and implement workflows/protocols to allow robust job setup and execution.
- Publication of research results in external scientific journals is expected and encouraged.
Education Minimum Requirement:
-
PhD in Computational Chemistry, Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Physics, Biophysics, Crystallography, or a related field
Required Experience and Skills:
-
PhD, or met all the requirements for a PhD by June 2015, with 3 years or less postdoctoral experience
-
Relevant research experience in computational chemistry or computational biology
-
History of publication in peer-reviewed journals
-
Experience in programming, developing or porting code and workflow development
Preferred Experience and Skills:
-
Experience in applying free energy simulations to small molecule- or protein-protein non-covalent interactions, and/or force field parameterization
-
Deep understanding of the physics behind the molecular interactions
-
Ability to work independently and develop innovative solutions
