The Merck Research Laboratories (MRL) Postdoctoral Research Fellow Program aims to be a best-in-industry program for industrial postdoctoral researchers, designed to provide you with an academic focus in a commercial environment. Position Overview:
As a postdoctoral fellow in Infectious Disease, you will work with a highly collaborative team of scientists from Infectious Disease, Pharmacology, Molecular Biomarkers & Diagnostics, and academic laboratories to discover, develop and execute translational assays and model systems to elucidate mechanisms of HIV persistence and inform on eradication strategies. You will independently design, execute, and analyze experiments to evaluate biomarker candidates and will have broad access to state-of-the art platform technologies to identify candidates and assess their translatability from preclinical to clinical application.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Leading the exploration and identification of new biomarkers and assays that improve detection and quantification of the HIV latent reservoir
- Analyzing the relationship between viral transcription and viral antigen production upon HIV reactivation
- Exploring multiple dosing strategies for latency reversing agents and characterizing the interplay between drug exposure, viral activation and cellular genomic and proteomic changes
- Planning and executing experiments, preparing written and oral summaries, maintaining a laboratory notebook, and communicating and publishing findings
- Keeping abreast of emerging technologies for biomarker identification and quantification
Education Minimum Requirement:

PhD in Biology or related field
Required Experience and Skills:
-
PhD, or met all the requirements for a PhD by June 2015, with 3 years or less postdoctoral experience

Experience in HIV research, assay development and cell culture
-
Knowledge of infectious disease and T cell biology
Preferred Experience and Skills:
-
Ability to design experiments, interpret and track results, and utilize this information to enable assay development

Proficient in immunological and molecular techniques, pharmacology, and model systems, particularly for infectious disease

Strong history of publication in peer-reviewed journals
