The Merck Research Laboratories (MRL) Postdoctoral Research Fellow Program aims to be a best-in-industry program for industrial postdoctoral researchers, designed to provide you with an academic focus in a commercial environment. Position Overview: 

As a postdoctoral fellow in Chemical Biology Research at Merck and the Harvard Medical School LSP, you will work with a highly collaborative team of scientists, in both an industrial and academic setting. You will integrate data from across domains including genetics, systems biology, and chemogenomics, and leverage this data to develop methods to discover and validate new drug targets. Networks of putative targets will be perturbed with chemical probes, and the candidate will use a combination of large scale proteomics experiments and network modeling to understand the biological consequences of modulating the targets of interest.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

• Identification of genetic hits through GWAS studies and systems biology.
• Selection of tool compounds based on chemogenomic data and gene expression profiles for target validation.
• Selection of relevant cell lines, and execution of medium throughput cell-based assays and phosphoprofiling.
• Network analysis of phosphosignaling results.

Education Minimum Requirement:

• PhD in Chemical Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Systems Biology, Computational Biology, Pharmacology, Computer Science, or a related field.

Required Experience and Skills:

• PhD, or met all the requirements for a PhD by June 2015, with 3 years or less postdoctoral experience
• Demonstrated proficiency in data-mining or statistical modeling methods
• Familiarity with wet-lab experimentation (e.g. in vitro testing, cell-based assays, phenotypic screening data)

Preferred Experience and Skills:

• Familiarity with genomics methods (gene expression profiles, genome wide association studies)
• Familiarity with cheminformatics (QSAR models, target prediction)
• Computational skills (e.g., Pipeline Pilot, Python, Perl, R, Matlab, SQL, etc.)
• Track record of innovative research combining methods from multiple disciplines to solve complex problems
• Strong history of publication in peer-reviewed journals
