The Merck Research Laboratories (MRL) Postdoctoral Research Fellow Program aims to be a best-in-industry program for industrial postdoctoral researchers, designed to provide you with an academic focus in a commercial environment. Position Overview:
As a postdoctoral fellow in Protein Mass Spectrometry of Bioprocess Development, you will work with a highly collaborative team of scientists from Bioprocess Development, Discovery Structural Chemistry (protein X-ray crystallography, BioNMR, and modeling and informatics), and Biologics Discovery to conceive, design, plan and implement Hydrogen/Deuterium Exchange Mass Spectrometry (HDX-MS) experiments designed to advance therapeutic protein development.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Leading the development and implementation of HDX-MS methods for higher order structural studies of therapeutic IgGs
- Applying HDX-MS results, together with existing structural data and structural modeling, to systematically examine local as well as allosteric conformational changes of the IgGs upon modifications or formulation and process variations
- Establishing structural activity relationships of therapeutic IgGs
- Understanding IgG’s conformational correlation with its stability
Education Minimum Requirement:
-
PhD in Analytical Chemistry or Biochemistry
Required Experience and Skills:
-
PhD, or met all the requirements for a PhD by June 2015, with 3 years or less postdoctoral experience

Experience in protein mass spectrometry
-
Hands-on experience of HDX-MS for higher order protein structure study

Experience with software for HDX-MS data analysis

Knowledge of protein structural characterization methods
Preferred Experience and Skills:
-
Ability to design experiments, interpret and track results, and utilize this information to enable assay development

Strong history of publication in peer-reviewed journals

Good communication skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary working environment
