Senior RF Design-Optimization Engineer

 

Newfield Wireless, a Tektronics Communications Co. is a leading provider of mobile network GeoAnalytics software and RF engineering services, allowing wireless network operators to better understand and improve network performance.  We are looking for highly motivated individuals with expertise in radio frequency technologies (LTE, UMTS/GSM, EVDO/CDMA) to assist with our RF engineering services work in network design, optimization, propagation model calibration, and other related work.  The right candidate for this full-time position will be a motivated self-starter who understands the demands and challenges of today’s network operators. The right candidate will interface with Newfield customers, RF engineers, software engineers & business partners.  Newfield provides a dynamic and challenging opportunity to work on the cutting edge of wireless network engineering. This position is based in Berkeley, CA at Newfield Wireless headquarters.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

·       Learn and master Newfield’s RF engineering services and software product offerings

·       Understand customer requirements, interact with customers’ (and partners’) RF performance engineers, prepare and present results to peers and customers

·       Advise and mentor client and Newfield internal engineers in tuning methodologies

·       Post-process and analyze field measurement (RF path-loss) data using Newfield proprietary and other software (ex. Actix, Wind Catcher,)

·       Tune RF propagation models using Newfield proprietary and off-the-shelf software tools such as Asset, Atoll, GeoPlan and PlanetEV

·       Support customer RAN engineers with LTE cluster optimization assignments using TrueCall

·       Generate reports using standard plotting and data analysis tools

 

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

·       BS Electrical Engineering, or equivalent technical skills

·       3 or more years of work experience with a wireless network operator (or equivalent consulting experience) in at least two of the following RAN interfaces (LTE/UMTS/GSM/CDMA/EvDO)

·       In-depth understanding of RF engineering concepts such as link budgets, wireless channel modeling, propagation environments, and path-loss

·       Knowledge of RF (CW) signal measurement hardware and software

·       Ability to accurately perform and manage data collection with RF transmitters, antennas and receivers

·       Skills, experience and ability to mentor other users with planning tools such as Asset, Atoll, GeoPLan and PlanetEV

·       Skilled with statistical data analysis and presentation of results

·       Quick learner, self-motivated, team player, strong attention to detail, and excellent customer service orientation

·       Ability to perform under pressure with challenging project deadlines and requirements

·       Excellent critical thinking, written, verbal communication, and presentation skills

·       Hands-on experience with lab equipment such as spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, power meters, etc.

 

Desirable:

 

§       Experience with DAS, small cell design or optimization

§       Experience programming and scripting (C/C++, shell, Perl, SQL, Python, etc.)

§       Teaching, mentoring, consulting and/or advisory experience

§       Understanding of remote sensing and geo-spatial data
