CDW, a $10B technology solutions & services company is seeking a Senior Manager, Business Systems. This role sits in the corporate IT organization supporting a user base of 7,000 across North America and Canada. Headquartered in Vernon Hills, IL, we are a Microsoft environment utilizing Cisco networking and telephony, EMC storage, and multiple package tools and applications (Remedy, PeopleSoft, etc.). The IT organization also is responsible for the development and operations of one of the world’s largest B2B websites.
The purpose of the Senior Manager, Business Systems is to maintain overall team delivery of architecture specifications, application partitioning, object and data modeling, database design, development/programming, quality assurance, and implementation support. This role serves as a cross-functional liaison to the enterprise and must have a demonstrated understanding of how IT relates to other corporate functions. This role has a strategic component, providing the design and planning that will result in solutions that will enhance and maintain a strong business system capabilities. The Senior Manager oversees several teams.
Key areas of responsibility include but are not limited to:
- Drive business strategy and direction across both IT and cross-functionally teams.
- Lead the business and technological direction of the group.
- Manage the teams in planning and prioritization of projects.
- Oversee a group of Managers and development teams responsible for the completion of projects within projected budgets and schedules.
- Application architecture planning, including system partitioning and framework design.
Responsibilities
- Manage all teams, including performance management, coaching and development. Proactively build coworker skill sets to increase bench strength that allows for succession planning.
- Interface with other areas of the business and implement and drive technical decisions that are beneficial across all functions.
- Team development of high-level business system narratives, storyboards, and user interface prototypes.
- Manage the development of detailed design specifications for use by the technical team.
- Ensure team development of system test plans, ensure software quality assurance (SQA) standards are achieved, and validate that business goals are accomplished.
- Guide the development of detailed estimates for projects, including resource allocation, timelines, and budget.
- Make technical decisions to meet the design goals articulated in product road map.
- Identify issues that require more attention, and work to resolve issues based on an understanding of the business problem being solved.
- Draw appropriate resources together in order to address business and technical issues.
- Direct and focus the efforts of project teams. Monitor progress of the team and provide mentoring where appropriate.
- Be responsive and customer service oriented to answer customer questions via phone, email, etc.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to identify opportunities, set overall direction, and clarify requirements and business needs.
- Interpret, communicate and lead teams to execute on strategic vision.
- Participate in annual budgeting process.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or MIS.
- 10 years’ experience in application development.
- 7 years of progressive leadership experience.
Other Required Qualifications
- Working experience in the product lifecycle and strong understanding of the role of methodology.
- Proven knowledge of the software development life cycle, including requirements gathering, design, development, testing and implementation.
- Demonstrated experience with object-oriented design, and programming techniques.
- Expertise in leading software development teams and managing implementation projects that utilize Client/server technologies.
- Working knowledge of software design support tools and productivity suites such as Microsoft Visio, Office, and Project.
- Strong organizational and planning skills with creative problem solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build rapport cross-functionally and maintain productive working relationships.
- History of negotiating with stakeholders and influencing the decision making process.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with and present to all stakeholders, including executive leadership. Demonstrated ability to communicate technical data to a non-technical audience.
- Solid business and technical acumen; including the ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex business reports and documentation, periodicals, professional journals, and technical documentation and manuals.
- Strong understanding of the B2B marketplace.
- Demonstrated experience in teaching and/or mentoring professional work teams.
