Cargill Corn Milling North America is a manufacturer of value-added corn and sugar based products serving the Food, Feed and Fermentation segments. From facilities in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Tennessee and Texas, we provide a wide variety of products and services including high fructose corn syrup, corn syrups, dextrose syrups and sucrose that are used in an array of beverage, brewing, confectionery, food and pharmaceutical applications. We also produce a variety of innovative, dry corn ingredients that are used in cereals, snacks, breads, tortillas and animal feed applications. In addition, we produce fuel-grade ethanol and are a leading supplier of corn oil, acidulants, corn gluten meal and corn gluten feed products.
This role will serve as the principal beef feedlot technical sales contact for feed products shipped from Bovina and Dalhart, TX and Blair, NE facilities. Position is responsible for sales of feed products to beef feedlots primarily through the interaction with nutritional consultants and with large-scale customer operations. Position also provides technical support for outside sales account managers in all geographical feedlot sales markets, provides support for customer service issues, and provides technical support for feed products and their usage by customers. Position is responsible for initiating and developing relationships with prospective customers and continuing to deepen relationships with established customers to discover/create opportunities that Cargill can meet through current/new products and services resulting in maximum account penetration in sustainable profitable growth for the Business Unit, the overall Food Ingredients Platform and Cargill. Position is responsible for helping customers grow their business.
Principal Accountabilities:
35% - Technical Sales and Developing Relationships Nutritional Consultants and Key Feedlot Customers:
1) Direct customer solutions and interact with feedlot consulting nutritionists. Provide support for customer service issues using recognized technical and product expertise. Coordinate use of company resources to provide value-added services.
2) Retain and expand strong working relationships with large, highly complex, visible, strategic, or tactically important customers. Build multi-level and cross functional relationships with strategic new customers.
3) Develop and lead customer specific technical and marketing projects, leading them to productive completion.
25% - Marketing Opportunities:
1) Responsible for introducing new businesses, generating profitable new accounts, growth at targeted accounts by identifying and recommending new technologies and new market opportunities related to customers’ needs.
2) Support supervisor and company management to develop new market opportunities in target market areas. Monitor and assess market-related influences to ensure competitive superiority is maintained Assist marketing and promotional efforts as required.
3) May be responsible for market appropriate pricing and evaluation of current and future marketing opportunities.
20% - Achieving Budgeted Goals and Sales:
1) Develop and execute annual sales strategy/plans for assigned accounts/geography based on strategic importance, understanding of market and pricing, first hand customer information, and alignment with BU strategy.
2) Manage customer receivables through effective forecasting and collaboration with Cargill, e.g., supply chain, technical services, and customer service.
3) Ensure that sales revenues, volume, growth and contribution margin are achieved or exceeded through understanding of the customers' needs and ways to enhance product/service availability and conducting well prepared negotiations/discussions.
4) May create, ensure accountability for and execute the Enterprise Account Plan for assigned account.
10% - Sales Development and Training:
1) Train, develop and lead sales/customer service efforts of regional sales and account management representatives resulting in continued profitable business growth.
2) Drive cross selling opportunities, when applicable, with other FISNA business units and across Cargill.
5% - Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
This position will be located in the Midwest or TX panhandle.
Required Skills:
- MS in ruminant nutrition or related field
- 5 or more years relevant experience
- Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of financial concepts to analyze customer’s financial ability to buy and develop & present cost/benefits to the customer as well determine best value for Cargill
- Demonstrated professional sales skills, including effective communication and organizational skills
- Self-starter, independent thinker. Ability to make decisions.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Must be able to travel 2 – 3 nights per week, including overnights.
Desired Skills:
- Ph.D. in ruminant nutrition
- 3 or more years in beef or feed industry
- Previous sales experience and demonstration of sales success
- Extensive knowledge of feedyard and/or feed industries
- Moderate marketing experience
- Strong commitment to customer excellence
