Domain Architect - End User Computing

As a member of this team, the Enterprise [Domain] Architect is responsible for providing subject matter expertise in specific areas of EA domains and leading or supporting EA activities for these processes: Architecture Planning and Strategy, Architecture Development and Architecture Assurance. The incumbent will lead the differentiation of technical capabilities, working with Tower Leads and third-party Providers for new / changing services. The Domain Architect will identify and addresses inter-domain dependencies and interfaces. They will also be responsible for monitoring domain consistency and quality of the technical architecture across Cargill and Provider architecture.
Candidates for this position are expected to be experts in the business partnering space with extensive and deep knowledge to independently conduct more complex activities. This job requires a highly skilled subject matter expert who can partner effectively with all levels of the organization, provide strategic thought leadership, lead and mentor others, drive results, and influence decision makers.
Principal Accountabilities
45% Architecture Strategy and Planning
- Develops and maintains the most complex enterprise architectures by leading definition of target or solution architecture, architecture reviews, and selection efforts.
- Provides leadership and assists managers in setting the long term direction, roadmaps, and standards for technical solutions, ensuring they align to the overall enterprise architecture.
- Maintains expert knowledge of industry trends, applying that knowledge by evaluating fit to Cargill and corresponding value.
- Responsible for the Life Cycle Management of technology components as well as other IT assets to proactively plan their future state.
- Utilizes expert architecture knowledge, may play a role in negotiations with strategy vendors and participates in strategic vendor relationship management process. Also ensures strategic vendor engagement to incorporate vendor’s roadmaps to Cargill’s target architecture and roadmaps.
- Provides project portfolio management support – ensures projects priorities are aligned to Cargill’s future state architecture and roadmaps.
- Proactively appraises and modifies current architecture to identify deficiencies, research alternatives, an determine improvements
20% Business Partnering / Relationship management and Consulting
- Regularly interfaces with other architects, analysts, project managers, and BU/Function subject matter experts to understand and evaluate business requirements.
- Assists in the definition of the architecture and technology opportunities of the organization based on new and emerging technologies.
- Independently establishes priorities and strategies, ensuring they are consistent with business goals and economic viability.
- Applies a deep understanding and subject matter expertise of architecture practices and procedures to articulate technology options, risks and mitigation strategies to service owners and leadership.
20% Architecture Definition Methodology
- Enterprise Architecture asset management - drives creation, certification, maintenance, guidance, access and communication of reusable models to guide architecture and design of solutions
- Enterprise Architecture portfolio management – management and optimization of the IT asset portfolios
- Communication and education of Enterprise Architecture methods and processes for all stakeholders, including training and ongoing coaching.
- Creation and maintenance of assets in the EA repository. Ensures ready access to necessary documents in a timely and high quality fashion.
- Consulting – provides technology and solution architecture guidance to all relevant Cargill projects and Solution Architects.
15% Governance and Portfolio Management
- Manages and reviews architecture solutions, ensuring they are aligned to Enterprise Architecture (EA) standards, quality and principles, as well as meet EA guidelines, common solutions and services are leveraged and that they meet financial targets (cost and benefits).
- Leads Solution Architecture Reviews as the primary mechanism of architecture quality and compliance assurance.
- Enterprise Architecture Exception Management – manages exceptions to Enterprise Architecture standards and policies.
- Provides Governance Support – overall Enterprise Architecture input to all relevant program / solution decisions.
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in IT or Business Related field or equivalent work experience
- 10+ years of IT and business/industry work experience.
- 4+ years of strategy experience in the technology area of End User Computing.
- 1 + year Basic Project Management.
- 1 + year of financial analysis experience (i.e. an understanding of basic financial analysis – application costs, budgets, etc.).
- Subject matter expertise and thought leadership in end user computing architecture
- Previous experience incorporating emerging technologies (such as tablets) into a large corporate landscape
- Thought leadership in how emerging technologies (such as social media and collaboration tools) can help drive business priorities
- Previous experience incorporating technology life cycle management into large corporations, including roadmap development and budget allocation
- Ability to travel globally up to 10%
- Solid Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint skills.
- 1 + year Technical Architecture relevant experience.
- Proven record of interacting with multiple business units and functional teams; globally.
- Experience leading complex projects; ability to drive for results.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to communicate technical and business information effectively to both technical and non-technical people.
- Knowledge of Infrastructure technologies and business applications, and their relationships.
- Established skills in identifying and developing strategies to address change management issues.
- Strong skills in influencing others with the ability to facilitate cross-functional teams.
- Experience in managing third party vendors in a global, managed services environment.
- Ability to accomplish results through others (lower level managers, professional employees, matrix organization, managed service provider).

Preferred:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in technical or business discipline
- Experience with business case development.
- Knowledge of all components of enterprise architecture.
- Industry certification (examples include ITIL, APICS, Six Sigma, etc).
