Position Overview

 

The EHS Advisor will partner with the Business Unit EHS Lead to provide leadership support and direction across the business unit in the following areas of focus: development and implementation of Environmental, Health, and Safety  strategy, maintenance and continuous improvement of EHS results, shaping of the internal EHS culture, management of the external EHS brand and leadership of talent management practices.

 

Principal Accountabilities:

 

30% - Environmental Leadership: lead, advise, support and promote Environment management and loss control, improve awareness, measure and ensure compliance with internal and external laws, regulations, and permit requirements. Create reports and documentation as necessary and ensure compliance with record keeping standards for regulators. Measure and communicate environmental performance. Develop education and training direction for the business unit. Communicate education and training focus with EHS professionals and Mine Engineering to accomplish learning objectives. Coordinate logical transition of Environmental program from Mine Engineering to EHS. Provide environmental and technical support to CDT Supply Chain regarding Cargill and third party bulk salt storage terminals and collaborate with Salt BU.

 

30% - Health & Safety Leadership: lead, advise, support and promote Health & Safety management and loss control, improve awareness, measure and ensure compliance with the internal and external laws, regulations, and permit requirements. Create reports and documentation as necessary and ensure compliance with record keeping standards for regulators. Measure and communicate Health & Safety performance. Develop education and training direction for the business unit. Communicate education and training focus with the EHS Professionals and BBS facilitators to accomplish learning objectives. Oversee direction/activity of BBS teams with CDT while collaborating with Salt BU.

 

10% - EHS Compliance/Development: Apply broad or highly specialized knowledge while planning, developing, tracking and conducting EHS training sessions, inspections, and Global & Informal CDT EHS audits. Direct EHS action items to ensure exposure reduction in identified gaps. Take a leading role in advising/directing resolution of difficult case management situations, developing the same skills in others, and surfacing developing trends.

 

10% - Risk Management/Assessment: Assess Business Unit EHS risks and opportunities using broad and in-depth knowledge of EHS issues (including current and medium-term future regulatory requirements) and potential impacts on the Business unit, stakeholders priorities (customer, community, interest groups, employees), and Business Unit strategy. Develop proposals to adequately mitigate risks/opportunities.

 

10% - EHS Program/Performance Execution Management: Lead development of the BU EHS programs and policies, reporting monthly results to BU EHS Lead. Initiate report out and analysis to operations leadership using leading and lagging EHS performance indicators and ensure high visibility of same across BU. Lead direction and focus for action based on analysis. Ensure quality and quantity aspects of programs are being met. Communicate and teach EHS goals and standards to the BU Leadership teams.

 

10% - Strategic EHS Leadership: Lead efforts to develop longer term EHS BU Strategy. Achieve internal approval and support of Business Unit and operations leadership to successfully execute on strategic components. Continuously assess developing external EHS trends for direct application and improvement within the business.
