Description
 
The primary function of the Pipeline Data Technician is to manage all the pipeline data and metadata within the various software packages designed to enhance pipeline integrity using primarily ArcGIS, PODS and X-Map.
  • Maintaining pipeline data to permit all integrity efforts for internal or external inspections, cathodic protection programs, chemical injection programs, block valve maintenance, inspections of road and river crossings.
  • Maintaining data for preparation of buffer zone maps for the Texas and Louisiana One-Call programs
  • Providing data and support to other groups such as: Environmental, Production Engineering and Health and Safety.
  • Developing geometric networks to integrate with other data models to
    • Support chemical and cathodic protection programs aimed at maximizing the benefits of a large program and aligning the program needs of production with the right data
    • Provide near-real time production data including pressure and flow rates. 
In addition, the position provides the following secondary functions
  • Member of the GeoSpatial network and member of other networks to deliver value through knowledge sharing.
  • Integrating older survey documents and/or alignment sheets into the PODS data model so that accurate data is up-to-date.
  • Generate map books, alignment sheets, and other map documents.
  • Perform HCA and Environmental risk analysis. 
Responsibilities may include: 
  • Managing all pipeline data and other surveys within PODS (future state)
  • Providing training on various mapping applications and data formats for field technicians
  • Coordinating data gathering and preparation for asset integrity and maintenance programs
Basic/Required:
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Associate's degree or higher in Industrial Technology, Engineering, or Geospatial field
  • 3+ years experience as a mapping technician in the oil and gas industry
  • 3+ years experience collecting data with GPS enabled devices and mobile GIS
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with different coordinate systems and projections
  • Willing and able, with or without a reasonable accommodation, to travel to remote locations on an "as-needed" basis traveling by boat, helicopter, etc.
Preferred:
  • 5+ years of direct experience as a mapping technician in the oil and gas industry
  • Bachelor’s degree in Technology, Engineering, or Geospatial field.
  • Proficient with Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) theories and applications (Access, SQL Server, Oracle)
  • Experience with GIS automation techniques including: Model Builder, Python, and ArcPy.
  • Knowledge of pipeline design and fitting specifications.
  • Ability to interpret surveys, construction reports, facility drawings, material test reports, and hydrostatic test reports.
  • Familiar with the PODS database model
