Waitemata DHB is the largest DHB in New Zealand serving a population of approximately 550,000 living in the North and West of Auckland. Comprised of two sites, and over 1000 beds, our hospitals are located close to the heart of Auckland City and are within minutes of beautiful beaches.
 
The Waitemata DHB’s Rheumatology Service is primarily an outpatient service for endocrine referrals from general practice providing outpatient assessment and treatment. Some acute inpatient referrals are also seen predominantly referred from acute medicine.
 
Waitemata DHB is recruiting for a part-time 0.6FTE Clinical Nurse Specialist – Rheumatology.
 
The purpose of this role is to provide advanced nursing practice that focuses on care delivery for patients with rheumatic chronic diseases (complex patient assessment and management, patient education and the development of nurse-led clinics). Care is assumed to the clinical nurse specialist level of practice and delegated authority.
 
The successful applicant will work closely with senior medical and nursing staff in the Rheumatology Service. They will have experience in nursing at a senior level preferably Rheumatology and have completed relevant post-graduate qualifications. Applicants should have a reputation for positive and dynamic approach to teaching and learning, development of resources and monitoring of practice to provide safe and effective nursing care. The clinical nurse specialist will provide expert clinical advice that will influence the practice of rheumatology nursing.
 
The appointee will have a key role in the continuing development of the Rheumatology Service, setup of new protocols (biologic therapies and other new therapies), contribution to clinical pathways, educational initiatives, and mentoring of staff. He or she will be expected to contribute to staff training, review of standards of practice, documentation and review of issues.
