Job Title: Group Legal Counsel (Interim)

 

Job purpose:

 

Provides legal advice to the Group plc, UK tour operator business, UK retail business and UK airlines business, supporting the Group Senior Legal Counsel, Head of Legal – UK and Head of Legal – UK Airlines, while thinking broadly and strategically, and exercising commercial and practical judgement. 

 
Key accountabilities and decision ownership:


• Draft/review and negotiate a wide variety of commercial contracts and other documents, including finance agreements, tax agreements, intercompany loan agreements, IT agreements, outsourcing agreements, distribution agreements, licence agreements, maintenance contracts, ground handling contracts, catering contracts, confidentiality agreements, etc.; also draft and advise on the novation and assignment of various types of contracts
• Advise on UK listing rules and corporate governance matters, relevant regulatory matters, labour and employment matters, data protection matters, etc.
• Manage litigation matters, working with external legal counsel to determine strategy/tactics and ensure that cases are properly and appropriately prosecuted or defended to protect relevant rights and assets, driving demonstrable cost savings
• Embed and foster a customer-focussed culture, delivering the relevant service for the customer (internal or external) on a timely basis, whilst seeking and acting on feedback to make continual improvements to the customer experience
• Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging simplicity, efficiency, ownership and accountability 

 

Skills, know-how and experience:


• Qualified Lawyer

• High level of understanding of general contract law and experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts and transaction documents independently; exposure to specialist areas (e.g., employment, intellectual property, data protection, property, etc.) advantageous
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, along with great attention to detail
• Builds strong business relationships and naturally influences multiple stakeholders
• Resilient and able to work at pace in a transformational environment
