Bonuses awarded only under terms of United's policies.NO AGENCIES PLEASEPlease note that this position will be hired under the subsidiary Continental Airlines divisional work rules until joint work rules are obtained.OverviewProduction co-workers may pack food and beverages, unpack/wash airline equipment, push/pull equipment to designated areas and read specifications to determine amount and kind of product to be packed in the applicable airline equipment. Open position(s) may include any one of the following departments.DutiesEquipment and Sanitation (E & S)
- Separate trash from inbound equipment (i.e. ovens, carriers, carts, glasses, silverware, linens)
- Place dirty equipment in appropriate machine and/or containers provided for the specified equipment
- Place trash in appropriate container (domestic and/or international) and sterilizes garbage from international flights
- Sort product that has been approved for recycling
- Remove clean equipment from appropriate dish machine and/or sterilizer
- Place the clean equipment on the appropriate cart/racking and store in assigned location
Sanitation Porter
- Cleans indoor facilities of the flight kitchen, temperature-controlled refrigerated areas for flights and grills and stove in the hot kitchen area
- Collects, removes and empties trash from all locations
- Scrubs the outside deck area and may be responsible for snow removal
- Cleans and stocks all restrooms and hand-washing areas with proper supplies
- Mops floors and buffs and waxes linoleum floors
- Cleans and dusts windows, blinds, furniture and kitchen fixtures
- Prepares cardboard boxes for recycling
Pre-Set
- Prepare and pack equipment with the required product that is specified for a specific flight following menus and portion specifications including special meals and service items
- Operate a silverware bagging machine
- Store and organize equipment according to customer specification and move the equipment to a final staging area
Liquor
- Maintain beverage inventory in specified work area
- Follow diagram specifications for accurate packing of required product and equipment to be placed on a specific flight
- Transport completed carriers and/or beverage carts to area
Food
- Operate various machines; including, but not limited to meat slicer and fruit slicer
- Prepare food items; sanitize and prepare fruit by specification
- Maintain integrity of food product by dating/rotating, maintaining temperature and documenting appropriate information on HACCP log as well as product labeling
- Pack food in appropriate equipment by menu specification
All
- Support the unit in the Lean Process initiatives
- Examine equipment for completeness and appearance of the product prior to storing in refrigerated or assigned area
Education
- High school diploma, General Education Development (GED) or educational equivalent preferred
Knowledge/Skills
- Ability to read, write and speak English fluently required
- Basic math skills required
- Understand weights and measures (scales) required
- Attention to detail required
- Continuous standing, walking, bending, frequent repetitive motion, reaching and handling food product and/or equipment is required
- Must be able to push and pull, lift and carry heavy equipment or food
- Ability to work continuously in extreme temperatures required
- Basic knowledge of cleaning methods required
- Previous experience in the operation of floor machines, buffers and scrubbers preferred
- Previous airline food services experience is preferred
Other
- Must clear a fingerprint-based criminal history check
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
- Must be able to work shifts to cover a 24-hour/7day a week operation, including rotating shifts, early mornings, late nights, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed
- Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualifications
- Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
