Overview
    This leader is responsible to oversees regulatory compliance program requirements; with consideration of both US and International Safety/Health standards. Disseminates United's Safety Route Map to local leadership and frontline employees. The leader must have a proven track record for decisive actions backed by strategic planning, continuous improvement, analytical thinking, goal-directed leadership and service-oriented performance. This leader will deliver results through leadership, direction, alignment and motivation.       
  • Conducts regular station safety visits
  • Oversees regulatory compliance program requirements
  • Conducts on-site safety compliance assessments of company facilities to validate work place hazard corrective actions making recommendations to correct/prevent identified safety issues
  • Coordinates with local leadership in achieving all levels of the Safety Excellence Program
  • Monitors trends in reporting system, accident and incident reports, implementation corrective or preventative action as needed or required
  • Have in-depth knowledge of Safety Management System, OSHA and local Safety requirements i.e. state, city, providing guidance and assistance to local leadership on safety related compliance matters with outside regulatory agencies
  • Must be familiar with and have the ability to interpret and comply with the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) specific to OSHA (29CFR)
  • Provide guidance and assistance ensuring all lost time employee injuries are investigated by local leadership, assuring each case goes before a Safety Review Board identifying root cause and preventative actions to be implemented to avoid repeats
  • Provides guidance and assistance ensuring all aircraft damages and near misses are investigated by local leadership, assuring root cause is identified and preventative actions are implemented to avoid repeats
  • Assists department heads and administrators in enforcing safety regulations and codes
  • Ensure an effective and accountable local FOD program is implemented
  • Drive safety compliance improvement through data collection and trending
  • Attends local monthly safety meetings
  • Ensure local station hearing conservation program is implemented and 100% completion
  • Assist local leadership with Safety Fairs
  • Works with Air Side Business Partners to promote and have them embrace Safety Plans and the Safety Excellence Program


     
Education
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 hour certification preferred
  • Safety related certification or related work experience preferred
Knowledge/Skills
  • Motivated and self-managed individual that has demonstrated leadership capability in a multi-operational division required
  • Proven leadership skills promoting a culture of safety and compliance required
  • Effective leadership skills in developing and directing a high performing team required
  • Strong knowledge of operations which includes customer service, ramp operations and business acumen required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products and applications required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required

Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years of leadership experience in an Airport Operations environment required
  • Minimum of two (2) years of Airport Operations experience required
  • Project management experience preferred
  • Experience building internal and external business partnerships preferred
  • Previous experience managing in a union environment preferred

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualifications
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
  • Travel up to 90% of the time required
  • Responsible for a 24 hour / 7 day a week operation including weekends and holidays; hours of work may include late nights, early mornings and weekends
  • This is a Regional position that will be based in one of the following United Hubs: DEN/LAX
