We are seeking Mental Health Assistants with recent experience working in mental health preferably in acute mental health. We have a range of acute inpatient facilities that cover the age continuum from child and youth, adult and older persons and an adult rehabilitation unit. Working as a Casual MHA with the ADHB Nursing & Midwifery Bureau will mean that your work can fit around your family, study and other commitments.
We require motivated, enthusiastic people to work under the direction and delegation of the Registered Nurse or other registered health professionals.
To be successful in this role you will need:
- initiative
- the ability to relate well to others
- work collaboratively within a team environment
- to understand the significance of the Treaty of Waitangi
- to be sensitive to biculturalism.
An added advantage would be the ability to speak Te Reo and or a Pacific Island language.
You must have successfully completed a Level 4 Health Care Assistant Course or equivalent or you are a 2nd or 3rd year nursing student who has completed a mental health placement, a Level 4 Mental Health certificate is highly desirable.
We require you to have a current CPR certificate and have successfully completed training in Safe Practice and Effective Communication (SPEC). ADHB is able to provide you with the SPEC training if required.

These are casual positions on an ‘as and when’ required basis so there are no guaranteed hours. You must be flexible with your availability to apply for these positions.
If you are currently working full time you will need to reduce your hours and provide proof of this. Our preferred candidates will be currently working 0.8 FTE/32 hours per week or less.
Hourly rate range $16.34 to $22.28 plus 8%.
