Coder Lll - Hospital Coding (on-site, But Potential For Telecommute) Limited, As Needed Basis

Hospital Outpatient Coding:
• To review clinical documentation and diagnostic results as appropriate to extract data and apply appropriate ICD and CPT-4 codes for billing, internal and external reporting, research and regulatory compliance activities.
• Accurately code outpatient conditions and procedures as documented in the ICD Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting. Provide charge validation and capture processes for various patient types. Includes the following outpatient visit types:
o Ambulatory surgery (same day surgery), may include charge capture
o Observation service encounters, may include hours calculation
o Other hospital outpatient types in accordance with Coder I and Coder II job descriptions, as assigned
• Assigns ICD-PCS procedure codes as part of the regular coding function
Hospital Inpatient Coding:
• Accurately code inpatient conditions and procedures as documented in the ICD Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting and in the UHDDS to arrive at the most appropriate MS-DRG assignment
• Assign POA (present on admission) indicators per official guidelines
• Validate discharge disposition
• Abstract data from medical record as directed
• Hospitalist / Provider – may include charge capture for hospital-based billing
Medical Coding Diploma or AHIMA approved Health Information Management Degree or related program required
Minimum of 3 years coding and reimbursement experience in a mutli-specialty setting or 3 years previous hospital coding experience.
Experience with electronic health record systems preferred.
In lieu of experience completion of coding degree or diploma will be considered.
Credential required within 1 year of hire:
CCS, CCS-P, RHIT or RHIA. CPC or CPC-H will be considered with relevant work experience
