Responsible for oversight and direction of all Safety and Environmental (S&E) programs and process at the Business Unit level.  Approves location specific annual improvement plans and action plans to address non-conformance and compliance issues.  Primary advisor to VP, ISC on S&E issues.  Primary contact point for all plant SSE Managers, Plants Managers and other S&E stakeholders on technical S&E matters.   Drives and monitors facility performance via key identified measures and objectives.  Sets standards for performance and continuous improvement.  Priorities BU capital spending for S&E projects.
  • In conjunction with the VP, ISC and other BU functions, develops the annual BU safety and environmental improvement plan. Develops performance standards and recommends the methods of accomplishing those standards for the BU’s.  Highlights key improvement opportunities on a location basis. Understands broader relevant technical requirements in S&E. Capable of understanding local compliance details where they might exist.    
  • Leads, for the BU, the development of systems and processes to achieve and exceed compliance with all S&E requirements and company policies. Assesses plants performance against internal and external auditing standards.
  • Understands and ensures Risk Assessments in S&E are performed to minimize or eliminate accidents, asset losses, and environmental issues that might cause harm to one of the company’s employees, contractors, visitors, assets, or reputation. Provides cost effective alternatives and solutions to unacceptable risks surfaced from the plants. Manages BU capital for S&E projects and tracks against open issues.
  • Provides safety and environmental expertise and recommendations to the VP, ISC and other BU functions. Develops or acquires custom tools to address specific issues.  Monitors the performance of the plant based SSE Managers and teams that are typically used to execute the specific work activities that drive the process improvements. Communicates both up and down as well as across the BU. Serves as the primary S&E technical resource.
  • Ensures training and coaching is taking place to ensure Safety, Security and Environmental standards and awareness are well understood throughout the BU organization. Maintains tracks and deploys best practices to drive performance improvement.
  • Oversees the personal development plans of the plant based SSE Managers and participates in the KFG succession planning process.
  • Conducts or oversees investigations into high gravity incidents and ensures the quality and outcomes of investigations continuously improve at each facility. Responds and assists in the management, investigation and follow up of any Special Situation.
  • Reviews facility annual plans to ensure, if they are properly executed, continuously improving results will follow. Sets plant targets S&E with VP, ISC and Plant Managers.  Carefully monitors KPI’s/EPI’s monthly. Intervenes quickly in facilities where plans or results are not on track.
